Dear 7th grade Lizzie,

Your 7th grade year your Great Grandma Johnson, who you referred to as GG, passed away. It just so happened to be on your 13th birthday. It was really challenging watching her suffer in the hospital. You stayed by her side the whole entire time she was in both the hospital and when she was at home on hospice. You did your best to keep calm and not cry in front of her. It was definitely a struggle but you managed. 

This loss was one of your worst ones and still is so far. You were lost and felt like you had no one; but you did. You went and looked for comfort. Something that could distract you from everything. You fell in a really deep hole but managed with the love and support of your friends. No matter where you went you always found comfort in someone or something. You found people who understood you, comforted you, and helped you get through it. 

You were and still are such a strong and powerful woman even when you didn’t feel like it. You got through it and that is what matters most. So many people are proud of you because everything that life throws at you, you have overcome. Good job!

I’m sure you’ve had at least one person give you a weird look, even though you don’t know who they are or who they are. They just judged you on appearance. They believe in a stereotype. Regardless of this, or how common it is, there is no such thing as a universally true stereotype. This is a simple belief, and even if people disagree, they cannot prove it wrong. It is a fact. You can say all people of [group] are [thing], but you’re wrong. If you’re right, it’s not a stereotype. And if it’s not a stereotype, it's not an issue. It is then not an opinion, which may be offensive, put simply. If I said “All adults are rude,” I’d be wrong. That’s a simple stereotype. Point out even a single outlier, and you’ve proven someone wrong in their stereotypical beliefs.
