SHORT STORY- JOSHUA

  The New Kid By: Joshua Kai wakes up to the sound of his alarm. A decently tall kid, with brown hair, picks up his phone, his blue eyes reflecting back at him, turns off the alarm, and throws it back down on his nightstand. Today is his first day of Sophomore year. After a couple more minutes he decides he better get ready for school before his mom comes and makes him. He gets out of bed and heads to the bathroom to get ready. He walks back to his room, and gets dressed. After he gets dressed, he heads downstairs and makes some eggs and toast. He sits down and starts eating as his mom walks in looking surprised. “You made breakfast already!” his mom says. “Yeah, what about it,” Kai says.  “Normally I have to drag you out of bed and then it's still about 10 minutes before you get ready.”  “Not today.” “I’m proud of you” Kai rolls his eyes and continues to eat his breakfast as his mom walks past him. Once he is done eating his breakfast, he throws his plate in the sink....

SHORT STORY- ELYSA

  Who’s There? By: Elysa “Are we there yet?” I say as I’m glaring out the car window, dying of boredom. We’ve been on the road for five hours now. “No Aaliyah we’re not. Stop asking or we’ll turn back around.” My mom says in an irritated voice. I hear my friends laughing at me. We’re on our way to a stupid haunted cabin in the forest. I don’t believe in that type of stuff, but my mom and friends do. The road to this place is so empty and flat. I check my phone for service and just like this whole trip here, nothing. “Aaliyah do you want to play truth or dare with us?” I hear my friend Zoe ask. I say yes and we start playing truth or dare.  We’ve been playing all sorts of games for at least two hours and the roads are looking extremely familiar. “Mom, where are we?” I ask in a concerned look. She doesn’t respond. My friends have the same worried look on their faces as they’re looking out the windows. “Mrs. Stonesburg?” My friend Neveah says in a soft voice. Still no answer. ...
