JOURNAL - YOU ARE A SPY DISGUISED AS A BIRD WATCHER

One bright, beautiful, but suspiciously quiet day at the park, a woman named Francis was taking a stroll, observing the pretty trees and plants that surrounded her. She walked over to a bench under what she thought was a stunning oak tree. She admired the smell of the earthy air. She took a deep breath and decided to take a seat and relax under the tree. Suddenly something hit her in the back of the head. It was a little note in the shape of a paper airplane. 

It read “ Meet back at this exact spot at exactly 10:30 pm sharp for a surprise.” 

She felt it was an obvious trap, but she couldn’t help the feeling she really needed to go. At 10:30, she makes it to the park bench and there is a person sitting there in a silly trench coat and top hat. A nice gentleman asked her to come with him. She wanted to question it, but instead she kept her mouth shut and went along with him. They walked into a bar and into the back which hid a secret door. When they stepped in there was a sign that said “BWS." It stood for “Bird Watchers Society. They wanted to recruit Francis as they had been watching her and noticed how observant she is. The BWS is a secret society disguised as bird watchers. They are actually bounty hunters and they assist real spies by watching their targets every move.

I’m sure you’ve had at least one person give you a weird look, even though you don’t know who they are or who they are. They just judged you on appearance. They believe in a stereotype. Regardless of this, or how common it is, there is no such thing as a universally true stereotype. This is a simple belief, and even if people disagree, they cannot prove it wrong. It is a fact. You can say all people of [group] are [thing], but you’re wrong. If you’re right, it’s not a stereotype. And if it’s not a stereotype, it's not an issue. It is then not an opinion, which may be offensive, put simply. If I said “All adults are rude,” I’d be wrong. That’s a simple stereotype. Point out even a single outlier, and you’ve proven someone wrong in their stereotypical beliefs.
